Shirakoma Pond famous for autumn leaves
紅葉で有名な白駒池
Shirakoma Ike is a pond located 2100 meters above sea level near Tateshina Nagano Prefecture, and its surrounding forest is famous for its astonishing autumn leaves.
白駒池 (しらこまいけ) は長野県(ながのけん) 蓼科 (たてしな) 近 (ちか) くの標高 (ひょうこう) 約 (やく) 2100メートルのところに位置 (いち) する池 (いけ) で、池 (いけ) の周 (まわ) りの森林 (しんりん) は見事 (みごと) な紅葉 (こうよう) で有名 (ゆうめい) な場所 (ばしょ) です。
Our aim in visiting there was to see the breathtaking autumn colour leaves, but unfortunately, it was too late to see the scenery. All leaves had fallen to the ground.
本当 (ほんとう) は、その紅葉 (こうよう) を目当 (めあ) てに行 (い) ったのですが、残念 (ざんねん) ながら一足 (ひとあし) 遅 (おそ) かったようで、落葉 (らくよう) していました。
The forest is also famous for its mosses. a few species of mosses fully cover the forest floor. A part of the forest is named ‘Mononoke Forest’ reminiscent of the forest in Yakushima, which is supposedly a model of the setting of the film ‘Princess Mononoke’.
こちらの森林 (しんりん) は、紅葉 (こうよう) の他 (ほか) にもコケでも有名 (ゆうめい) です。林床 (りんしょう) はびっしりとコケに覆 (おお) われています。「もののけの森 (もり)」と名付 (なづ) けられているエリアもあるくらいで、映画 (えいが)「もののけ姫 (ひめ)」の舞台 (ぶたい) のモデルとなったと言 (い) われている屋久島 (やくしま) を彷彿 (ほうふつ) させるような景色 (けしき) です。
Perhaps, the mosses would have been lively and more green in Summer, and I could have taken much better photos. It’s a little bit shame.
多分 (たぶん)、夏 (なつ) に来 (く) ればコケも もっと活 (い) き活 (い) きとした緑色 (みどりいろ) をしていて写真 (しゃしん) も もっと映 (は) えたのかなぁと、こちらも少 (すこ) し残念 (ざんねん) でした。
It wasn’t the best season neither for autumn leaves nor mosses. But many people were there that day as Shirakoma Ike is one of the starting points for climbing Yatsugatake. The parking lot that can accommodate about 200 cars was full, and we had to wait around 20 minutes to park our car even though it was before 9 am.
紅葉 (こうよう) にもコケにもベストなシーズンではなかったものの、白駒池 (しらこまいけ) は八ヶ岳登山 (やつがたけとざん) の出発点 (しゅっぱつてん) のひとつなので、たくさんの登山者 (とざんしゃ) が訪 (おとず) れていました。200台 (だい) の駐車場 (ちゅうしゃじょう) も、午前 (ごぜん) 9時 (じ) 前 (まえ) にも関 (かか) わらず、20分 (ぷん) ほど待 (ま) たなければなりませんでした。
Two days after we visited Shirakoma Ike, it snowed in Yatsugatake (most likely the first snow this winter), and the surrounding forest of the pond was snow-capped and stunning (observed through the online view of the cameras installed at the parking lot). Shirakoma Ike has different beautiful scenery each season. There are also outside hot springs nearby. You can get there in 2 hours by car from Tokyo. You can have a return trip on the same day, so what are you waiting for?
私 (わたし) たちが白駒池 (しらこまいけ) を訪 (おとず) れた2日後 (ふつかご) には、八ヶ岳 (やつがたけ) では雪 (ゆき) が降 (ふ) り（おそらく初雪(はつゆき)）白駒池周辺 (しらこまいけしゅうへん) の森林 (しんりん) も雪化粧 (ゆきげしょう) し、また違 (ちが) った美 (うつく) しさをみせてくれました（駐車場 (ちゅうしゃじょう)に設置(せっち)されているカメラの映像(えいぞう)がオンラインで確認(かくにん)できます）。四季折々 (しきおりおり) の美 (うつく) しさをみせてくれる白駒池 (しらこまいけ)。周 (まわ) りに露天温泉 (ろてんおんせん) もいくつかあります。東京 (とうきょう) からも車 (くるま) で2時間 (にじかん) の近 (ちか) さです。日帰 (ひがえ)り旅行 (りょこう) も可能 (かのう) ですので、大自然 (だいしぜん) を見 (み) に出 (で) かけてみませんか？
