The JR Koumi Line spans 78.9 km laying in both Yamanashi and Nagano Prefectures. This railway running right next to Mt. Yatsugatake has a station called ‘Nobeyama’, which is located at the highest sea level among any other railway stations. It is at approximately 1745 meters above sea level.
There is a kanji (Chinese character) meaning ‘ocean/sea’ in the name of the railway line, but the ocean is far away. Indeed, it runs at the farthest point from the sea.
At this time of the year, it would be a good idea to take a train journey even one station ride if you have a little spare time. You would enjoy autumn leaves from the train.
A special featured train “High Rail 1375”, which runs under the full of stars in a crispy clear air, are operated. Its seat arrangement is special so that passengers can fully enjoy the breathtaking view. It’s a shame, but I can’t provide photos of it, so please visit the link if you are interested.
