2000年いこう、台風はあらかじめ決められた140の名前から、はっせいした順番に名付けられています。この140の名前のうち、日本が決めた名前は10あります。テンビン・コグマ・クジラなどすべて、星座の名前です。
Since 2000, typhoons have been named in the order of occurrence from the top of a list of 140 names. 10 out of the 140 names have been suggested by Japan. They all are the names of constellations like the Libra, the Little Bear (Ursa Minor) and the Whale (Cetus).

今週末、日本にじょうりくした台風14号には、【チャンスー】という名前がついています。【 チャンスー 】は、花の名前で、オランダスイセンのことだそうです。また、かこに同じ 【 チャンスー 】 という名前をもった台風は４つあります。
こんしゅうまつ、にほん に じょうりくした たいふう じゅうよんごうには、【 チャンス― 】という なまえ がついています。【チャンス―】は、はなのなまえ で オランダスイセン のことだそうです。また、かこに おなじ 【 チャンス― 】 という なまえ をもった たいふうは よっつ あります。
Typhoon No.14, which made landfall in Japan this weekend, has the name of Chanthu suggested by Cambodia. Chanthu means the tuberose, the name of flowers. There were four other typhoons having the same name Chanthu to date.

台風がもたらす ひがい Damages caused by typhoons
台風は、時に大きなひがいをもたらします。強い風でかんばんややねが飛ばされたり、大雨で川がはんらんしたり、道路がかんすいしたりします。きけんですから、台風が近づいている時は、不必要に外に出ない方がよいでしょう。
たいふう は、ときに おおきな ひがいを もたらします。つよい かぜ で かんばん や やね が とばされたり、おおあめ で かわ が はんらんしたり、どうろ が かんすいしたり します。きけん ですから、たいふう が ちかづいている ときは、ふひつよう に そとに でないほうが よいでしょう。
Many typhoons cause severe damages. Strong winds are likely to brow untightened things and even signs, roofs or trees. Heavy rains may flood rivers and roads as well. It is very risky to go outside when a giant typhoon is approaching. You should therefore stay home if you don’t want to get hurt!
